| Sunday 26th August - Henham - 2 Litre Teams Report by BangerBash A disappointing turnout of around 45 cars for this year’s Henham Teams Championship spread over 9 teams with visitors from PRI, RDC and Incarace. Cars of note were a couple of Mk3 Granada’s, a Mk4 Granada and a very griff Sierra. A4 Ginger Burbridge had a used Volvo 340, H6 Woody a Lada Riva and C1 Mark Carter a hardcore Maestro. Meanwhile top motors went to A5 Martin Scully and W1 Derek Caton with Capri’s. Teams as follows: Allstars A-A, Allstars B-B, Flat Out A-G, Flat Out B-H, Panthers-P, Rat Pack-C, Rude Boys-R, W.I. Engineering-W, Wild Wallies-K With the format the same as every other year the fields were spread a bit thin and 17 cars appeared for Heat 1. K1 Brian Anderson (Bluebird) got span out by the pack and W1 Derek Caton (Capri) span C2 A Neall (Granada Mk3). P1 Zara Hale (Sunny) was span out and B2 Roy Laybourn Jnr (Cav Mk3) went through the side of her. Undertaker then put away Hale and she received another t-bone, this time from Neall. Undertaker fired into the back of Laybourn before Neall nailed the former. Neall then span out Radar and G1 Terry Garrod (Cav Mk2 Est) did the latter up the back. Undertaker attempted to put in the leading B1 Wayne Holten (Cav Mk3) but he recovered to take the win and fired into H2 Woody (Lada Riva) on the rundown causing him to rollover. There were 14 cars out for Heat 2 and B4 Matt Franklin (Cav Mk3) span P4 Kevin Giles (Cav Mk3) on the bend causing him to rollover and A3 Gary Rose (Sunny), K4 Slim (Cav Mk3) and C4 J Chaplin (Bluebird) all got caught up in this. The only other action was G3 Ashley Garrod (Cav Mk3) spinning B3 Paul Scully (Bluebird) into Chaplin’s dead motor. Garrod took the win ahead of C3 Andy Rookard (Bluebird) and K3 Warren Hyde (Bluebird). Heat 3 had just 11 cars and A5 Martin Scully (Capri) put away C5 Dale Woolnough (Cav Mk3) while P5 P Flynn hooked out W5 (Cav Mk3) while Cruncher nearly rolled taking it too fast round the bend. B6 Laybourn took out both Scully and Woolnough in one move before P6 Mark Rowe (Cav Mk3) took out the young gun. B5 Skippy caused W5 to rollover and G5 Jack Garrod (Cav Mk3) forced Woolnough to rollover as well. A6 Stu Brookes took the win in a well late Civic with Rowe and Flynn the placemen. Heat 4 had 15 cars in it and Woody rolled his Lada for a second time and K2 Rick Clarke got nailed by an unseen attacker before nearly overturning. G1 Terry Garrod then gave Clarke a length of the straight hit to send the latter over the banking. P2 Mike Hale (Bluebird) fired into Radar while the Allstars A had a good result with Hayden Bennett and Barry Franklin crossing the line in that order. 13 cars for Heat 5 and K4 Slim span P3 John Atkinson (Mondeo) while W3 Warren Hyde put B4 Matt Franklin (Cav Mk3) up the banking. A1 Barry Frankin nailed Rookard to wrap up the action. G3 Ashley Garrod took the win ahead of Hyde and W3 Guy Chopping (Granada Mk4). Onto Heat 6 and there were 12 cars and Scully rolled over on the back straight almost straight away. W5 John Fogg (Cav Mk3) attacked A6 Mr Bilge and G5 Jack Garrod went for Skippy. K5 also nailing Skippy as well. Laybourn span out Cruncher so teammate Jack Garrod planted the former into Scully’s upside down motor. Cruncher had turned it round by this point to t-bone Skippy and caused him to rollover. W6 Odd Job then did a 2 and a half roll before Cruncher stayed on oppo to go through the side of P6 Mark Rowe causing him to roll too. Woolnough took the win ahead of Fogg and Laybourn. Heat 7 had 14 cars and G1 Terry Garrod banked Radar and G2 Graham Garrod (Proton) did the same to Neall and the latter rolled on his side. Laybourn then span out Radar causing him to rollover before the lively young gun rolled over Woody’s Lada too. Skippy put Rick Clarke into the banking while Mike Hale nailed Bennett. Hale then continued and planted C1 Mark Carter (Maestro) into the rolled Lada. Laybourn still claimed the win ahead of A1 Bazza and W2 Clarke. Heat 8 had 10 cars and B3 Squirt span out G3 Ashley Garrod and Hyde took out both Atkinson and G4 Gavin Barnes. Atkinson then decided to go on oppo and come inside out at both of the Flat Out teammates 2 laps on the trot before taking a hit from Garrod. Garrod then put span him out and Barnes had him lined up for the t-bone but he bailed out before the chance was there. Hyde put away Barnes as Guy Chopping took the win. 11 cars for Heat 9 and Laybourn took out W5 while Rowe picked up Undertaker and Cruncher latched on and they went into the bank. Undertaker then nailed Rowe and lead him round the wrong way for half a lap. Undertaker then t- boned Rowe very close to the door for comfort causing the latter to roll onto his side. Skippy took the win this time ahead of Mr Bilge. The Final was for the top 4 teams and they were Allstars A, Allstars B, Flat Out A and W.I. Engineering. This had the biggest field of the day with 20 cars. Guy Chopping and Scully did an absolutely massive rollover on the bend causing both cars to warp in strange ways. Cruncher turned it round and nailed Steve Chopping head on while John Fogg attacked Skippy. Undertaker t-boned Jack Garrod while Cruncher still on oppo went into the back axle of Laybourn but he shrugged it off and caused A1 Bazza to roll (which must’ve been a mistake). G4 Barnes then turned round as well and t-boned Stu Brookes who was out cold on impact and it seemed like ages before they finally showed the reds. A result was called and Bennett won the final but with Terry Garrod, Ashley Garrod and Cruncher the placemen. The Flat Out A team got the victory. Under 10 cars for the DD and Radar and Verger came down the back straight at each other to have a massive head on. Gary Rose t-boned Undertaker and Atkinson gave the latter a head on. Rose then nailed the Undertaker and Barnes gave Rowe a stiff shot. Rowe still recovered to nail Rose. Cruncher then done Rowe square in the door but Rowe recovered to give Cruncher a head on and seal the win. A good day out with lots of races and an average of over 1 roll a race. So Henham keeps up with it’s rollover status. Shame the races were a bit thin on cars but some good action coming all day.
