Sunday 22th July - Arena Essex - 2 Litre Bangers Report by BangerBash A brilliant turnout of 60 cars in the pits at Arena today with most of them opting for Cavalier Mk3’s although there was plenty of Mondeo’s as well. Top car was the Mk2 Capri of 226 Jamie Marsh but it didn’t make the track. Other motor’s of note were the Calibra’s of 250 Carl Howard, 514 Charlie Taylor and 730 Deane Mayes with Taylor’s the only fresh one although it also never made the track. This week there were 21 Bad Co/Eastender cars and 9 Gladiators all ready for the war. 28 cars for the Heat 1 and 206 Phil Milner was very lonely on track as he had no teammates and he was in the lead until 2 Billy Lee (Mondeo) turned it round to give him a head on. 508 Harry Bradbury (Bluebird) then firing straight into the back of Turkish. Lee then went into the side of the lone Glad again. 10 Paul Whiteman fired in 553 Tony Frith while 241 Paul Korpiella (Primera) put away 13 Tommy Harding (Cav Mk2). 10 Paul Whiteman took the win ahead of 567 Gary Brown and 552 Karl Douglas. The whole top 10 having Mk3 Cavs! 1st: 10-Paul Whiteman, 2nd-567, 3rd-552, 4th-196, 5th-351, 6th-161, 7th-527, 8th-200, 9th-265, 10th-242 26 cars for Heat 2 but was much better as 336 Ian Smith (Mondeo Est) took out 65 Darren Lee (Bluebird Est) while 330 Roy Laybourn spun 457 Danny McCormack. McCormack then giving a head on to 177 Darren Jones (Bluebird) and Smiffy nailed the latter. 36 Ben Hamilton (Bluebird) picked up 603 ??? (Sierra) and followed him in. Smiffy was on oppo and lunged for 348 Sonny Sherwood (Mondeo Est) and caught him over the back wheel. 542 Craig Oliver (Mondeo) was waiting for a head on and took a huge one from 456 Nathan Roberts (Mondeo) and the latter continued with a t-bone on Smiffy. 513 Shaun Harvey (Cav Mk2) then hit Roberts. Mushy hit Smiffy before giving Smiffy Jnr a huge t-bone at the top end rolling on impact (unfortunately he got loaded for rolling his car back over while the race was going on). 460 Lewis Barber (Mondeo Est) then t-boned McCormack and Laybourn also piled in. Roberts continued with hits on both Smiffy Jnr and McCormack while 331 Boxer Jack took the win ahead of 105 Billy Standing and 193 Frankie Skinner. Again the finishers were all Mk3 Cavs. 1st: 331-Jason Jackson, 2nd-105, 3rd-193, 4th-60, 5th-188, 6th-227, 7th-27, 8th-506, nof A big field of 42 cars for the Final and 161 Wayne Burns followed in Turkish from the off and Roberts done Smiffy. 549 Phil Smith swiftly got revenge by firing into Roberts. 539 Michael Outen (Mondeo) then nailed Phil Smith. 137 Lee Turner (Primera) also piling into Smith. Smith took more punishment receiving hits from 507 Danny Brown (Bluebird) and 508 Led Hed. 177 Jones then gave Smith a head on. 557 John Small (Mondeo) got bored and turned it round and gave 60 Steve Laybourn a big head on killing both cars dead. 183 Paul Hunter (Mondeo) also hit Phil Smith while Danny Boy and 200 Wayne Holten both nailed Smiffy. Smith and Danny Boy then had a head on and 351 Lee Woodards got caught in traffic and went into the back of the Eastender. Bradbury then t-boned Smiffy and Roberts gave Smith a head on while Skippy t-boned him. Hunter then giving Smiffy a head on too. 265 Jamie Percival took out Danny Boy and Boxer Jack spun 113 Ian Beaumont. 103 John Seex (Astra Mk3) then fired Percival into some dead cars as Whiteman took the double with teammate Boxer second and 527 Danny Gardiner third. 1st: 10-Paul Whiteman, 2nd-331, 3rd-527, 4th-27, 5th-188, 6th-567, 7th-730, 8th-552, 9th-161, 10th-227 28 cars returned for the Rawlins/DD and there was a false start which saw Hunter doing cheap red flag shots and Outen planted 65 Darren Lee into the back of 303 Jody Walker. On the real start 60 Laybourn started on oppo and gave 603 ??? a head on. 178 Brian Anderson (Bluebird) tried avoiding the mess and hit into Percival’s door. Roberts nailed Smiffy Jnr while Turner picked up Harvey and planted him into Laybourn’s dead motor. Danny Boy gave Harvey a roofbender while Roberts and Turner gave Phil Smith more hard hits. 193 Frankie Skinner took the win in the Rawlins and everyone pulled off bar Roberts and Barber. Roberts tapped Barber and his car was dead to leave Barber the winner.
