| Sunday 21st October - Arena Essex - National Bangers Grand Slam A slightly disappointing turn out of 33 drivers and 39 cars for this years Grand Slam. Car wise just 5 Mk 2’s, all used, 8 Mondeos and 3 Vectras including the track’s first for 589 Simon Smith. Also worth a mention 427 Dave Johnston’s immaculate Mk 3 Cavalier. First up was the Champion of Champions with 14 cars for it. 271 Deano was the first to show spinning 63 Paul Ruskin. 348 Mushy and 589 Smiffy Jnr played cat and mouse before Mush leant him in. The only other action in the race being between the two, with Mush running Smiffy round the wall before reversing into him, 10 Lamp took the win. 1st 10 Paul Whiteman, 2nd 188, 3rd 401, 4th 193, 5th 271, 6th 105, 7th 27, 8th 351, 9th 63 A better grid of 31 for the Rawlins 2000 with 161 Burns taking first blood walling 336 Smiffy. 440 Ian Phillips nailed 206 Turkish against the flow as 162 Shanahan thundered 174 Whipper in on the pit bend. 161 Burnsy nailed 206 Turkish on the nose before taking a shot from 549 Phil Smith, who paid for it being slaughtered by 460 Lewis Barber. 552 Blacknuts creamed 589 Simon Smith in the Vectra Est as 542 Craig Oliver met 140 Ian Harrison head on. 348 The Mush jacked Phil Smith whilst the lively 440 Phillips nailed Turkish again on oppo. 161 Burns continued his show walling 549 Phil Smith as 460 Barber gave 206 Turkish a big bone on turn 3. 250 Carl Howard picked up Mushy who was only too happy to administer a savage t-bone to Phil Smith, which the Vectra took surprisingly well. Harrison again came the wrong way and boned 542 Craig Oliver as 206 Turkish took out 271 Deano. 193 Frankie t-boned the lurking Smiffy Jnr as Howard came off the middle to nail 161 Burns who was sitting tight. 271 Deano saw the race out turning 105 Bill Bob up the wall. 208 The Finger took the win for the second year in a row. The Grand Slam Final brought back 23 cars with 162 Shanahan giving 512 Harvey one of the nose, allowing Burns to give the latter a shot over the wheel. 336 Smiffy slaughtered Shanahan as 552 Blacknuts gave 542 Oliver a monster t- bone over the drivers side back wheel, leaving the latter winded but fortunately ok. 250 Howard gave 348 Mushy a t- bone, prompting Mushy to jack his empty car several laps later. 1st 193 Frank Skinner, 2nd 27, 3rd 10, 4th 188, 5th 399, 6th 271, 7th 242, 8th 401, 9th 348, 10th 63 A good field of 14 returned for the DD with 250 Carl Howard attacking 140 Harrison. 512 Lewis Harvey fired head on into Harrison leaving himself open to a massive t-bone from 162 Shanahan. 271 Deano picked up 27 Andy Reynolds at alarming speed, the later being very lucky to clip Shanahan’s car. Reynolds ended up by the starter where he was jacked by 242 Korps. 162 Shanahan went on a suicide mission down the straight and met 552 Blacknuts head on, the latter however continued and gave 250 Howard a stonking head on on the bridge bend, with the latter taking a big hit from 348 Mushy as a result. 427 Johnston slammed on the brakes rather than hit 348 Mushy before jacking him half a lap later. 161 Burns jacked Johnston before giving him a big t-bone, with Harrison also firing into Johnston before doing Burns. Harrison and Mush enjoyed a head on, with the Mondeo coming out on top, Mush winning the race too.
