Sunday 20th May - Arena Essex - 2 Litre Bangers Report by BangerBash 41 cars in the pits for the latest 2litre meeting at Arena. As always the Mk3 Cavalier was the popular mount. There were a couple of Mk2’s with 613 Tommy Harding having a smart example. Onto the RWD stuff with 7 Tim Munday and 336 Smiffy returning Capri’s, 409 Kris Venable’s returned a Mk4 Cortina, 174 Whipper had a used Mazda 929 Estate while the top mount by far was 188 Matt Fuller’s Cressida Estate. All cars are Mk3 Cav’s unless stated. 18 cars for Heat 1 with 200 Skippy on the attack instantly landing one on Smiffy (Capri), 320 Paul Seymour then took out the former. 103 John Seex picked up 113 Ian Beaumont and followed him in. 331 Boxer Jack then homed in with the t-bone on Beaumont. Skippy span out 34 Nick Harding (BMW S3). Boxer carried on his full contact race by taking out 112 Squeaky and put away 7 Tim Munday. 320 Paul Seymour took the win. 21 cars for Heat 2 and 169 Lenny Boy (Bluebird) weighed in on 206 Phil Milner from the off. Turkish and 507 Danny Brown (Bluebird) then had a head on. 137 Lee Turner (Primera) then picked up 174 Whipper (Mazda 929 Est) and thundered him into the pit bend. Whipper making his way round the armco to nail Danny Boy. 590 Darren Smith (Primera) then hammered Whipper’s Mazda. 321 Lee Caunter (Mondeo) went for 183 Paul Hunter but missed and put himself in the wall and Turner nailed Trigger for his mistakes. 348 Sonny Sherwood (Mondeo Est) connected with 513 Sean Harvey. Mushy and 589 Simon Smith then enjoyed a head on. Harvey then fired into the Mush. After sitting on the shale for ages Hunter came back off and nailed both Smiffy Jnr and Harvey before coming round to do the 589 car again. 105 Billy Standing took the win this time. 30 cars out for the Final and 613 Tommy Harding (Mk2) got stuck behind Whipper and got blasted by 188 Matt Fuller (Cressida Est). Skippy nailed Smiffy Jnr with a solid hit while Lenny Boy hammered Whipper. Meanwhile on the back straight 113 Ian Beaumont got a roof bending shot from Fuller. Mushy then piled into Smiffy Jnr and Turkish connected with the Mush. Turkish then also attacked Danny Boy while 460 Lewis Barber (Bluebird) trashed Whipper’s Mazda. Carl Howard then nailed the Lethal Weapon before the latter recovered to take a head on from Phil Smith. Skippy piled in on Phil Smith. Lenny Boy who was turned round came DSU at 514 Chaz Taylor (Mk2) and went straight through the doors. Simon Smith then doing an equally silly move to 552 Blacknuts (Primera Est) but fortunately clipping the back end of the car. Lenny Boy then t-boned Taylor in the passenger side before the reds came out as the latter was in trouble. Unfortunately Lenny then t-boned Turkish after the reds. After a long delay 113 Ian Beaumont got his car pushed back onto the starting grid, already trashed and on the restart took one more massive shot from Matt Fuller leaving Beaumont’s Cav an impressive mess. Simon Smith and Mushy had one last head on. Danny Boy who was aiming for Howard took a hit from 242 Korpiella (Sunny Est) over the front wheel. The former then getting his man with a head on. 105 Billy Standing took out Paul Seymour and Boxer hooked out Billbob en route to taking the flag. 15 returned for the Rawlins/DD and Turner blasted Whipper from the off before the former nailed Phil Smith. 409 Kris Venables (Cortina Mk4) span out and stayed that way to give 7 Tim Munday (Capri) a big head on down the back straight. Phil Smith and Turner had a head on and Carl Howard blasted Turner. Blacknuts then gave Howard a stiff hit while Lethal Weapon connected with Smith before the red flags came out for Howard I believe. On the restart Barber and Smith had yet another head on and Blacknuts nailed the latter. 193 Frankie Skinner (Astra Mk3) turned it round to give the lurking 34 Nick Harding a shot and followed him into Turners dead motor. By this time we were into the DD and there was 3 left, Billbob won the race. 60 Steve Laybourn then gave Harding a head on. Just Frankie and Laybourn were left who exchanged a few hits after some cat and mouse and they had a head on to end it in a dead heat.
