Saturday 3rd March - Ipswich - Under 1600cc Raid Report by BangerBash Nearly 80 cars turned up at Ipswich with visitors from Buxton, PRI, RDC and TSR. The 1600cc limit restricting material to pretty much nothing with the exception of a couple of Sierras, 326 Carl Picton with a Capri and 821 Simon Thomas with a raw Lada Riva. Meanwhile running mates 256 Lee Basham and 263 John Jacombs braved it in a Peugeot 205 and a Honda Civic respectively. 67 Mark Whittaker, 146 Danny Wigman, 309 Paul Brown and 470 Peter Corbett all deserve mentions for their smart efforts although Brown didn’t race. All cars are Primeras unless stated. There were 40 cars out for Heat 1 and it started with 93 Chris North (Cav Mk3) getting spun out into the pack. 520 Craig Manning (Cav Mk3) then nailed Northy. 564 Mark Cooper spun out 567 Gary Brown while 247 Lee Clarke did the same to 470 Peter Corbett. The limping Northy had even less luck when he got hammered by 264 Mark Welland (Bluebird) ending his night early and the reds came out for him. On the restart 114 Glen Beevis was trying to liven up the action by fencing Corbett while 188 Matt Fuller connected with 614 Chris Hide (Cav Mk3). Gonzo continued being lively by taking out both Coatie and 514 Marty Eighteen (Bluebird). 322 James Newland attacked 247 Lee Clarke which left him open to a huge package from Gary Brown. Marty Eighteen put away Craig Manning while a few cars collided with each other at the scoreboard end including 206 Dave King firing into Gonzo. 516 Carl Gould span out Matt Fuller en route to taking the victory ahead of 75 Steve Thacker (Bluebird) and 528 Alan Hunt. 1st: 516-Carl Gould, 2nd-75, 3rd-528, 4th-206, 5th-470, 6th-564, 7th-601, 8th-520, 9th-801, 10th-5 Up to 44 cars for Heat 2 and 16 Andy Hill (Cav Mk3) took out 169 Lenny Brinkley at the start while 146 Danny Wigman nailed 256 Lee Basham (Peugeot 205). 431 Shaun Abra also taking out the little Pugo leaving it facing the wrong way. Basham then stayed on oppo and decided to have a head on with 715 Mick Princes’ Bluebird! 478 Mark Logan latched onto 24 Jason Cuddihy (Bluebird) and ran him round the Armco before placing him into the scoreboard bend. Wiggy took a shot at 173 Roger Fuller (Sierra) which left him against the wall. 348 Sonny Sherwood (Rover 416) span out 16 Andy Hill into 821 Simon Thomas’ Lada. 432 Mark Munson finished the action by taking out 439 Danny Sutton (Bluebird) while 730 Deane Mayes won by half a lap from 564 Coatie and 349 Michael Allard (Cav Mk3). 1st: 730-Deane Mayes, 2nd-564, 3rd-349, 4th-348, 5th-119, 6th-67, 7th-146, 8th-6, 9th-741, 10th-121 Heat 3 only raised 28 cars and was very quiet as a result. 293 John Jacombs (Civic) took out both 478 Mark Logan and 740 Ryan Flockton. Flockton nailed 334 Barry Williams and 295 Graham Heywood (Bluebird) landed one on the former. Gary Brown then put the luckless Flockton into the wall. 119 Davey Cox won this one with 67 Sparky and 75 Steve Thacker after that. 1st: 119 Davey Cox, 2nd-67, 3rd-75, 4th-730, 5th-587, 6th-439, 7th-478, 8th-224, 9th-514 The Final had back to 40 cars and a few of the cars found the armco on the scoreboard bend including 514 Marty Eighteen who had managed to roll onto the side and the red flags came out. On the restart it was very quiet although Wiggy ran out of room and hit one of the dead cars on the top bend. 499 Phil Rainsford and 295 Graham Heywood collided with each other on the straight and 65 Steven Chopping (Sunny) blasted Heywood with a head on. 730 Dean Mayes took another win ahead of Sparky and Mushy. 1st: 730-Deane Mayes, 2nd-67, 3rd-348, 4th-119, 5th-528, 6th-564. 7th-206, 8th-75, 9th-439, 10th-188 Thanks to Damien Widdows for this information as my impatience went and I went home. It started with 248 Dave Harding getting followed in hard, snapping the Sunny on impact. Kingy turned it round to connect with 776 Adam Norton’s Sierra head on while Cruncher nailed Mr Lossy coming into the bend as Kingy hammed Norton again over the back wheel. 188 Matt Fuller then span Kingy out which led the latter to t-bone the Sierra again killing it. Mr Lossy hit 415 Chez Selvador on the back straight leaving him prone to a stiff package from Fuller. Cruncher also nailed Lossy causing him to roll over.
