| Sunday 11th November - Wimbledon - World Final Report by BangerBash A massive field of 125 bangers assembled in the Wimbledon pits with the presentation of cars and paintwork were absolutely mind blowing. The Granada dominated the field with a total of 57 Mk2's being fresh. On top of those Granada's 436 Robbie Cole had a Mk3 Limo while 206 Dave King impressed with a Mk2 Hearse. A few Mk1's were in the field as well with scottish duo 152 James Dillon and 456 Steve Allen impressing with superbly turned out saloons as did 470 Steve Nelson while 250 Geert Hoekman had a 2 door version. There were also a few coupes with 62 Phil Stevens, 218 Lee Clellend, 552 John Wibberly and 820 Martyn Perkins having them although Clellends' was used. Not as many Jag's as previous years with most of them being XJ's with 35 Rob Joplin and 814 Mark Millen having Series 2's and 262 Jason Barnard and 397 Stuart Sidell Series 1's. 827 Nigel Hopkins and 917 John Millen weilded Mk10's with the formers being used. Only 5 Volvo's and they were all 240's. Onto the Jap beef and there wasn't much of it with 172 Ben Forbes having a Laurel which never graced the track, 384 Liam Conway had a lush Mazda 929 Estate and 824 Mark Millen returned a Custom Crown. The top mounts were 368 Mark Annetts' Rover P4 and 379 Adrian Clifton's Oldsmobile Toronado. On the other end of the scale there were 5 Calibra's and Mondeo's, 4 Bluebirds, 3 Omega's a Cavalier Mk3 and a Vectra Estate. Onto the first last chance race and 35 cars lined up for it all wanting a place on the grid. 401 Steve Hemmings (XJ) got the ball rolling by fencing 470 Steve Nelson (Mk1) while 972 Alan O'Neill clobbered the spun 884 John Golden in an all XJ encounter. 215 Chris Bull (Omega) got tangled up with 6 Mark Holdsworth (XJ) to take himself out. Meanwhile 824 Mark Millen (Custom Crown) and 24 Ian Cuddihy (XJ) met each other on the nose and they continued with another head on on the safety area. The leading 550 Rob Farrington fired into 827 Nogger (Mk10 Jag) sending him into Nelson's vacated motor. Farrington continued by hooking out the Irishman O'Neill who had been taking pops at him before 7 Colin Farley span out the leader. The Eastender took out his frustration by nailing O'Neill before the latter decided to turn round and come inside out at 194 Steve Anscombe (Mk3) and nail him very close to the door. Meanwhile 294 Lee Hughes shoved 7 Wally wide to take the win and get on the grid. Wally taking second with 196 Stu Palmer getting third. 1st: 294-Lee Hughes, 2nd-7, 3rd-196, 4th-775, 5th-550, 6th-820, 7th-794, 8th-169, 9th-208, 10th-397 1 more for the second last chance and Clellend (Mk1 Coupe) and 146 Dan Wigman ended up being fenced by the pack. While plenty more were caught in a mess on the top bend and a few laps later 400 Kevin Shinn (Mondeo Est) followed in 433 Ben Smith (Mk3) on the top bend a treat. 52 Tyrone Poulter (Mondeo) then also nailing the luckess Smith. 379 the Worm renewed his fued with the Midnight Runners by stopping 10 Paul Whiteman by leaning him into the fence and 245 Jack France fired into the yank. 439 Danny Sutton (Calibra) also catching the Worm head on and 827 Nogger (Mk10 Jag) blasted the Anglian. Whiteman avenged his attack with a t-bone on the Worm and 225 Nick Bull (Volvo 240 Est) gave the Runner a head on while he was still on oppo and the Worm dished out a t-bone back to Whiteman. 409 Joey Collins (XJ) and Bull also meeting head on while 99 Richie Ahern took the flag and 325 Keith McMahon (Volvo 240) and Whiteman had a head on. Unfortunately after post race scrutineering Ahern failed with illegal tyres so this gifted 710 Ben Wilkins a place on the back of the World Final grid while 269 Dean French and 52 Tyza inherited second and third. 1st: 710-Ben Wilkins, 2nd-269, 3rd-52, 4th-204, 5th-159, 6th-245, 7th-161. 8th-490, 9th-379, nof Next up was the World Final and the defending champion 331 Jason Jackson lead the way onto the track with a lap to show off his car which was absolutely stunning before he picked out his place on the Grid which was number 7 before all 49 of the other qualifiers followed. Somehow the smart cars were picked out of all the World Finalists and the awards went the way of 46 Keith Painter, 190 Steve Bailey (Mondeo Est), 206 Dave King (Mk2 Hearse), the aformentioned defending champion, 474 Matty Threlkeld and 552 John Wibberly (Mk1 Coupe) and they were all stunning although mention must go to 158 Shane Davies where you could see the car from miles away. 385 Roy Gedge (Bluebird) and favourite 348 Sonny Sherwood drew the front row positions. 27 Dale Hughes was on position 6, 730 Deane Mayes grid 13, 46 Maverick 19, 188 Matt Fuller 30, 617 Jack Overy 31, 119 Davey Cox 42, 158 Davies 44 and 190 Pikey was 48. As is the norm there were 2 rolling laps and the terracing lights went out as the fireworks lit up and the green flag dropped to signal the start with 348 Mushy making a very good run from the start. 202 Mike Kilford got taking in by 148 Ian Redden and 247 Lee Clarke before a pile up formed at the top end with leading Mushy getting caught in it. 552 Wibbs was span out and copped it on the nose from 188 Smoker and 152 Mr Grumpy fired into the back of the 2litre Wolrd Champ. Kingy hammered 173 Steven Reynolds and took one in turn from 710 Bunge. Meanwhile 331 Boxer Jack took up the running, just before taking out 614 Chris Hide (XJ), with 741 Luke Parfitt (Calibra) right on his tail with 27 Dale Hughes not far behind either while 49 Lee Saunders attacked Kingy. 158 Shane Davies was getting ever closer to rival 617 Jack Overy and when he got spun Davies took the opportunity to do him over the back wheel. 349 Michael Allard ended his chances in the race when he got planted into the fence by 522 Tim James (Omega Estate). 119 Cruncher (Cav Mk3) took out continental 924 Mark de Laat before 190 Pikey blasted the luckless continental. 247 Lee Clarke (Calibra) took a pshyco lunge at 46 Maverick taking him out of it. Boxer started to pull away from Parfitt when 312 Tom Reynolds (Mk3) managed to slow down the latter while the luckless Maverick was fenced. 924 Devastator took out 710 Bunge before 202 Mike Kilford forced 601 Lee Usher (Vectra Est) into the fence. 190 Pikey latched onto the back of Devastator before putting him in the fence while Boxer hung on until the end to take the chequered flag for a second year in a row as the fireworks went up. 27 Dale Hughes overtook Parfitt to steal second from him. Cruncher finished forth with 730 Mayzie (Calibra), Mushy, Kilf, 223 Bret Harrison, 601 Usha and 296 Scott Mowlam completing the top 10. 1st: 331-Jason Jackson, 2nd-27, 3rd-741, 4th-119, 5th-730, 6th-348, 7th-202, 8th-223, 9th-601, 10th-396 Spedeworth took the decision to merge the 2 allcomers into 1 race and it had a massive grid of just under 50 cars and 146 Wiggy picked up both 384 Liam Conway (Mazda 929 Est) and 670 Richard Flockton and they ended up in the fence. Tyza blasted 670 Tricky while 814 Mark Millen (XJ) nailed 215 Chris Bull before 794 Simon Foreman (Volvo 240 Est) t-boned the Wild Boy. 391 Wayne Shinn executed a fine shot on 384 Bad Boy Liam's Mazda and Wiggy hammered Ol' Matey in turn. 169 Lenny Brinkley was spun out so came at 614 Mr Lossy on oppo and done him in the side. 45 Anthony Crowshaw put in Mayzie while 262 the Verger (XJ) span 248 Dave Harding into Wiggy's car. 917 John Millen followed in 988 Tim Wood (Volvo 240 Est) with 24 Stinky (XJ) latched onto the back of him. 820 Maggot (Mk1 Coupe) picked up McMahon and followed him into another Irish motor who was unfortunately getting out at the time. The reds had to come out for this incident although 196 Joey and the Worm enjoyed a late head on. The race was declared in favour of former world champion 7 Wally ahead of (another former world champ) 158 Davies and Joey. 1st: 7-Colin Farley, 2nd-158, 3rd-196, 4th-617, 5th-741, 6th-331, 7th-52, 8th-204, 9th-222, 10th-245 17 cars returned for the DD and 988 Tim Wood gave a devastating (no pun) roof bender to Devastator. 242 Ricky Korpiella t-boned the Worm and Whiteman gave the latter a fierce hit. 474 Matty then decimated Korps with a superb hit and Bunge nailed the Team V man. 208 Jimmy Randall then did Bunge in turn. 731 Sean Dyer (XJ) managed to follow in the Verger to buckle the latters steering. 173 Steven Reynolds then hit Dyer while 552 Wibbs nailed Psycho only for him to shrug it off and nail Dyer. Wibbs got another shot on him and Reynolds blasted Wibbs to take the last car honours for his efforts after the long trip. Last Car Running: 173-Steven Reynolds from 552-John Wibberly Overall a decent meeting with outstanding cars and some decent crashing with the DD certainly being the highlight and well done to Boxer on retaining the title.
