Saturday 10th August - Ringwood - Speedweekend
Report by BangerBash

A brilliant showing of over 110 cars in the pits for Ringwood’s £10,000 Tornado Speedweekend for the Saturday night.
The split was 52/59 in favour of the overs, and that’s where we’ll start. The field was made up of Granada’s, Jag’s and
Volvo’s mainly. Interesting Granada’s included 68 Mark Dickson’s smart Mk2 Minster while 451 Willy Blackwell returned
a Mk1. Jag’s included a Series 2 XJ for 28 Neil Osbourne and a Series 1 for 97 Rabbit that didn’t make the track. 772
Simon Byrne had a Volvo 164 which was very smart. Other material were 2 Rover P5B’s for 93 Matthew Reynolds and
887 Wayne Bessant although the formers never made the track. 319 R Denby returned a pillarless Laurel, 521 Ash
Riley had the second Lexus 400 of the sport in as many weeks while 421 Nigel Riley had the top Jap in the shape of a
Toyota Crown. There were 2 Yanks with a Cadillac Seville for 659 Ug which never raced and a Cadillac Fleetwood Limo
for 200 Glyn Robinson.

A mention must go out to 772 Bernie who had 4 fresh motors for the weekend and 202 Mike Kilford for doing both
classes.

Around 30 cars for Heat 1 and 804 Ben Small (Volvo 240 Est) wasted no time in doing 887 Wayne Bessant’s P5B to
end his night very early. 742 Ian Gregory (Volvo 244) followed in 204 Charlie Callard’s smart Mk2 Est before a huge
pile up formed at the bottom bend which I couldn’t see very well although 721 Grant Butler (Volvo 240 Est) nailed 67
Rickie Beasley (Mk2) and 901 Mike Hale (Mk2) fired into 451 Willy Blackwell (Mk1) only to get done in turn by 231
Tony Broughton (Volvo 240 Est) as 327 Sid Sherman Jnr (Volvo 240) piled into the latter before 133 Ben Wyatt (XJ)
leathered Suicide Sid Jnr with a msssive shot. The reds then came out for the blockage. There were 10 cars on the
restart and 517 Scott Weldon (XJ) took out 450 Glyn Platts (XJ) before Werzal did the same to 328 Sid Sherman
(Volvo 240 Est) causing him to do a full roll and the reds came out. The race was declared in favour of 409 Joey Collins
(Mk2) and with 151 Tucker (Mk2) and Weldon the placemen.
1st: 409-Joey Collins, 2nd-151, 3rd-517, 4th-199, 5th-1, 6th-536, 7th-133

26 for Heat 2 and 794 Shaggy (Volvo 240 Est) span 111 Sean Reeves (Volvo 240 Est) while 51 Simon Heilds (XJ) took
a shot at 781 Shaun O’Donnel (Volvo 240 Est). 202 Kilf (XJ) fired in 421 Nutty Nige (Crown) and 592 Mark Marchant
(Volvo 240 Est) flew over the inner Armco before 49 Rob Bevan (Mk2) hit him. 271 Dean Goodearl buried Nutty Nige
before bailing out as Heilds had lined him up. 136 Paddy Connelly fired into Nige and Heilds hammered 500 Scott
Mulladay (XJ). Shaggy nailed 210 Paul Barnes (Mk2) as 231 Stuart Dunn (XJ) took the flag ahead of Connelly and
332 Chris Reed (Mk2 Est).
1st: 231-Stuart Dunn, 2nd-136, 3rd-332, 4th-49, 5th-29, 6th-794, 7th-68

It was all out for Heat 3 and it raised 25 cars and 199 Jamie Wyatt (XJ) t-boned Dunn and Nige nailed 747 Phil Purdy
(Volvo 740 Est). 111 Sean Reeves attacked 221 Justin Riley (Volvo 240 Est) before Werzal did Reeves in turn. Weldon
fired into 331 Shane Fry (Mk2) on the bottom bend. 305 (Volvo 740 Est) nailed Ben Small and 451 Willy Blackwell
(Mk1) got Stinkbridge revenge which formed a pile up. 521 Ace Ash (Lexus 400) fired into 1 Dave Thomas (Volvo 240
Est), Shane Fry did 99 Scott Gough (Mk2) and Nige lunged at 210 Paul Barnes (Mk2). 721 Grant Butler (Volvo 240
Est) piled in and Bona nailed him and Motormouth ploughed 555 Ben Williams (Mk2) into the wreckage. Werzal then
piled into Motormouth before the reds came out. The restart had Ace Ash take out Blackwell before he then nailed
Suicide Sid. Weldon attacked Nige before Ace Ash then weighed in on the Warlord before then getting a mammoth t-
bone from Platts. Ash then attacked Suicide Sid and he had a play with both the Rileys before taking a t-bone from
Nige and another shot off Ash who rolled it on impact which was a good way to end the night. Somewhere along the
line Platts won the race ahead of Blackwell and The Thug.
1st: 450-Glyn Platts, 2nd-451, 3rd-721, 4th-517, 5th-421, 6th-328, 7th-331

Onto the unders and not much of note car wise apart from a couple of Sierra’s, 269 Rob Houghton had a used RWD
Bluebird, 333 Steve Randell returned a barely used Capri while top car was 103 Lee Bugler’s Cortina Mk5. All cars are
Bluebirds unless stated.

There were around 20 cars for Heat 1 and 131 Ian Daniels (Primera) got span into the fence by the pack. 247 (Cav
Mk3) also ended up being fenced while 551 Simon Whant (Sierra) hooked out 16 Tom Dickson before the latter was
put away into the dead 106 Cav. 323 Waspy (Civic) took out 5 Mark Kelly (Civic) while 311 Danny Smithson clobbered
Kelly. 862 Dippy fired 30 Darren Worsley (Rover 216) into the fence and 103 Lee Bugler (Cortina Mk5) nailed the
former. Dickson fenced Waspy while 315 Foey Jnr guided his Mondeo to the win ahead of 12 Robbie King (Corolla)
and 515 Willie Irvine(Primera).
1st: 315-Foey Jnr, 2nd-12, 3rd-515, 4th-311, 5th-5, 6th-333, 7th-215, 8th-862

28 cars for Heat 2 and 64 Curly (Rover 216) took out 197 Peter Dodge (Primera) while 341 Andrew Jones did the
same to 174 Simon Jaycock (Cav Mk3). 873 Humby hammered 688 (Rover 216) and 188 Steve Bessant fired into the
back of 206 Matt Kelly (Primera). Peter Dodge attacked Jonesy and 805 Sean Kelly (Primera) gave him a head on
before rolling it to bring the reds out. On the restart it was very quiet and 387 Mark Le Faux (Nissan 100NX) won the
race ahead of 237 Kev Bennett and 988 Billy Dennison.
1st: 397-Mark Le Faux, 2nd-237, 3rd-988, 4th-239, 5th-830, 6th-197, 7th-68, 8th-702

1 less for Heat 3 and 714 Paul Smalldon went for Bennett before the reds came out for a reason I don’t know. On the
restart Bennett followed in 155 (Mazda 626) and 20 Harris (Carina II) buried himself in the back of the former. 269 Rob
Houghton (RWD Bluebird) nailed the 20 car as did 71 The Monster before 704 (Rover 216) did him in turn. Jonesy
then blasted into the latter to complete the wrecking train. 706 Danny Lucas (Carina II) shunted Bugler before Humby
put away Skelly. Humby also put away The Monster and 782 Dippy (Rover 216) nailed the fenced car before taking the
win ahead of Lucas and 120 Steve King.

Onto day 2 of the weekend and the Sunday raised just under 90 cars between the classes with the split being 43/45 in
favour of the overs again. We’ll start with the overs again and most of the material was from the day before with Jag’s,
Granny’s and Volvo’s the tool again. 97 Rabbit finally racing his Series 1 XJ with 28 Ozzie and 190 Pikey having used
Series 2’s. 68 Dicko had the Mk2 Minster and 379 Adrian Clifton returned a Mk2 Limo while 198 Sam Wyatt and 172
Bernie had fresh Mk1’s with the latter’s an estate, both sporting awesome paintwork. The other motor’s of note again
being 319 Denby’s pillarless Laurel, 521 Ace Ash’s Lexus 400 and 421 Nutty Nige’s Crown.

Mention must go to 197 Peter Dodge, 206 Matt Kelly, 237 Kev Bennett, 311 Danny Smithson, 702 James Dodge, 133
Ben Wyatt, 199 Jamie Wyatt, 271 Dean Goodearl, 517 Scott Weldon and 691 Jason Gubby for all building and using
second cars for their class. More mention’s to 231 Stu Dunn and 239 Steve Carter for doing both classes and 136
Paddy Connelly, who had 3 cars for the weekend. Again also to 772 Bernie for doing both classes and the 4 mega
smart cars.

To start with it was the last chance qualifier Consolation race which raised just under 20 cars and 901 Mike Hale (Mk2)
fired in 51 Simon Heilds (XJ) while 221 Motormouth (Volvo 240 Est) gave 210 Paul Barnes (Mk2) a big roofbending
shot. 691 Jason Gubby (Volvo 240 Est) did Heilds over the back wheel while 557 John Small (Volvo 240 Est) was
slowing up the Bears by putting the brakes on Motormouth but got spun and Ozzie gave him a mammoth t-bone and
804 Ben Small (Volvo 240 Est) fired in a the rear. 747 Phil Purdy (Volvo 740 Est) nailed Gubby as 742 Ian Gregory
(Volvo 244) stopped 271 Deano (Mk2) and Ozzie nailed him too. 265 Stu Foster (Mk2) took out 500 Scott Mulladay
(XJ) before Gregory t-boned the latter. 241 Liam Cracknell (XJ) picked up 319 Denby (Laurel) and planted him into
Heilds empty motor before taking the flag ahead of 592 Mark Marchant (Mk2) and Disco Stu.
1st: 241-Liam Cracknell, 2nd-592, 3rd-265, 4th-772, 5th-804, 6th-319, 7th-379, 8th-221

Onto the final and they decided to do a drawn grid like it was a meaningful title or something and wasted so much time
to the point of people getting very bored. It raised 33 ‘qualifiers’ and 231 Stu Dunn (XJ) nailed Small before the latter
recovered to take out Marchant. 90 Mark Bartlett (XJ) put away Dunn to take the lead while Nemesis gave Denby a
stiff shot. On the back straight 199 Jamie Wyatt had been spun and got doored by 536 Annette Nicholls (XJ) who was
being pushed by the pack and the reds came out for Bona who need assistance. There were 25 cars for the restart
and Nicholls walled 794 Shaggy (Volvo 240 Est) and 332 Chris Reed (Mk2 Est) span out 781 Shaun O’Donnell (Volvo
240 Est). 136 Connolly (Mk2) t-boned 133 Ben Wyatt (Mk2) while Pikey blasted Nutty Nige. Reedy then nailed both
Nige and Bernie (Mk1 Est) and 721 The Thug (Volvo 240 Est) hammered the formers empty car. Pikey then trashed
the Bear and Motormouth did Pikey in turn. On the last few laps 282 Lee Treasurer (Mk2) lead 409 Joey Collins (Mk2)
into Ace Ash to end his race while Motormouth took a shot at the leading Bartz. Bartz ran out of petrol towards the end
which gifted Uglee the win from 517 Scott Weldon (XJ) who was the only other finisher.
1st: 282-Lee Treasurer, 2nd-517, nof

The last race was an Allcomers into a DD and 10 started the race while 5 cars waited for the DD. Weldon span
Gregory and the latter copped it in the door from Bona. Ace Ash (Lexus 400) then nailed Bona before the reds came
out. The restart had 6 cars doing the race and was actionless with a repeat result of the final with 67 Ricky Beasley
(Mk2) getting third. Into the DD and Ace Ash ripped through the side of the Worm’s limo and 1 Dave Thomas (Volvo
240 Est) nailed Ash. Weldon fired into Denby before Nutty Nige went for a mistimed DSU hit on the Warlord. Weldon
then nailed Nige for his troubles. Ace Ash had turned it round and Pikey gave him a mental length of the straight head
on which snapped both cars and the reds came out for the safety of them but not before Nige and Weldon had a head
on. On the restart TDT went for the Worm and Weldon nailed him to take the last car honours. Nige then waved him in
for 1 last shot to wrap up the action.
1st: 282-Lee Treasurer, 2nd-517, 3rd-67, 4th-1, 5th-379, nof
Last Car Running: 517-Scott Weldon

Onto the unders and not much on the car front again except 2 used Sierras, 269 Rob the Roof’s used RWD Bluebird,
333 Suicide Steve’s and 136 Connelly’s used Capri, 103 Bugler’s and 231 Stu Dunn with used Mk5 Cortina’s while top
car was 772 Bernie’s well smart Marina. All cars are Bluebird’s unless stated.

The unders Consolation raised 15 cars and was very quiet with 471 The Riddler taking out 309 Forest (Sierra) and 873
Humby did the same to 197 Dodge (Carina) so 702 Jimbo (Primera) nailed him for it. 103 Bugler (Cortina Mk5) planted
174 Simon Jaycock (Cav Mk3) into the fence while 323 Waspy (Civic) won with 80 Matt Nutley and 206 Matt Kelly
(Primera) the placemen.
1st: 323-Waspy, 2nd-80, 3rd-206, 4th-55, 5th-782, 6th-702, 7th-862, 8th-805, 9th-197, 10th-471

34 qualifiers came out for the Final and it had another long drawn grid. 782 Glen Boyce (Rover 416) took out Rob the
Roof (RWD Bluebird) and 805 Skelly (Primera) nailed Gladis. 333 Steve Randell (Capri) rolled onto his roof to bring
the reds out. On the restart Suicide Steve nailed 862 Dippy while 136 Connelly (Capri) took out Skelly. Jimbo put away
the Posh Wash Capri and 341 Shovy (Almera) picked up Waspy and 706 Lucas (Carina II) latched on and they all
went into the wall. 206 Matt Kelly (Primera) fired into 215 Lee Vincent (Primera) back wheel. 387 Foey (Nissan 100NX)
put Waspy into the wal while 120 span Rob the Roof. 772 Bernie (Marina) attacked both Foey and 12 Robbie King
(Corolla) before Foey walled the latter and Lucas nailed him before the reds came out for the most ridiculous ruling in
bangers I have ever seen. 12 Mad Dog was winning and because he got walled they bought the reds out to award him
the win even though he kicked off about it on the centre green! The Dodge’s were plain and simply robbed out of their
prize money and they give their money to someone who Trojan claims has now been banned for 2 months for kicking
off.
1st: 12-Robbie King!!!???, 2nd-197, 3rd-702, 4th-296, 5th-988, 6th-301, 7th-5, 8th-120, 9th-311, 10th-239

Over 25 made it back out for the Allcomers into DD and 296 Bobby Le Faux nailed 106 Chas Hunter (Cav Mk3) and
Randell gave the latter a head on. 341 Shovy took out Lucas while Nutspeed and 55 Cookie both nailed Skelly. Lucas
then put away Nemesis and Moley fired Shovy into the latter. 5 Mark Kelly (Civic) planted 714 No Show into the inner
wall. Cookie planted 20 Harris into Nemesis’s motor and Jimbo blasted him big time. Jonesy then hammered Jimbo
before walling him. Meanwhile 197 Peter Dodge got the win this time (as he should’ve in the last) ahead of 288
Sherwood (Primera) and 5 Kelly. Kelly took out Nutspeed and Mad Dog gave him a head on while 231 Stu Dunn
(Cortina Mk5) nailed Skelly and Sherwood hit him into the inner armco. Skelly ended up balancing on the inner armco
and Dunn nailed him for good measure. Peter Dodge nailed Mad Dog and Sherwood attacked the former. Kelly fired
into Bugler’s Tina and Pete Dodge made a big run up and trashed the latter. Kelly then nailed Dodge before Nutspeed
gave the Civic pilot a big t-bone and another hit up the back to finish him off and be the last car.
1st: 197-Peter Dodge, 2nd-288, 3rd-5, 4th-12, 5th-296, 6th-120, 7th-714, nof

Good racing overall but the lack of races for the drivers with a lot of them only get 2 races each day, not much of a
good day for the bangers. Way too many support formulas and no-one knew how the money was split.
