
| Sunday 9th September - Smeatharpe - Autospeed World Final Report by BangerBash 56 motors arrived for the Autospeed World with visitors from Spedeworth, Incarace, Mendips, PRI, RDC and Startrax. The tool of choice was the Granada with the pick of them being 191 Ashley Kemble’s Mk2 Limo used at the charity dirt meeting the week before. Both 507 Paul and 508 Steve Ashby had lush Mk1 Coupe’s. The best of the Jag’s were 46 Clifford Friend’s and 916 Luke Thomas’ Series 2 XJ’s with the formers being used. 46 Keith Painter returned the Crown Royal from the Blockbusta as did 384 John Golden and 592 Mark Marchant with a Crown and 280C Estate from the same meeting. However the top motors were 248 John Sparkes’ Triumph 2000 Mk1 which failed to make the track and 714 Paul Smaldon’s 280C. Mention must go to 99 Richie Ahern and 998 Cotty Jnr for doing Kings Lynn the night before. 27 cars for the last chance race and 24 Jason Cuddihy was put away by 46 Clifford Friend (XJ) at the start and a few more piled in. 118 Aaron Brown (XJ40) picked up 191 Ashley Kemble (Mk2 Limo) and followed him in to end his day early. 249 Darren Brock (Volvo 240 Est) put 741 Alex Waterman (Volvo 240 Est) into the limo. 908 David Brown (Volvo 740) got a shot on 382 Tom Hutchings while Waterman recovered to blast 364 Nathan Olden. 551 Moley fired into the back of 159 Daniel Godley (Volvo 240 Est) and 7 Jamie Charles (XJ40) did the former in turn. 120 Shane Brown nailed 265 Stu Foster and 269 Rob Houghton hammered the Autospeed legend and a few more piled in to cause a pile up but the reds came out for Kemble’s limo which was on fire. On the restart 372 Jay Matthews span Charles and Brown hit the Messer. 283 Nigel Forton (XJ) picked up Brown and they both ended up in the wall. Jamie Charles then blasted the Son of Zoot before backing off and nailing Waterman as well. Charles then reversed into the traffic and 88 Tim Wood (Volvo 240 Est) nailed him. 269 Rob the Roof took the win ahead of 244 Michael Bunyan and 336 Shannon Darke (XJ) with 741 Alex Waterman the last entrant into the World Final. 1st: 269-Rob Houghton, 2nd-244, 3rd-336, 4th-741 All 32 entrants lined up for the World Final with 271 Dean Goodearl a hot favourite drawing pole. With lots of Team Black and 158 Shane Davies being in the main race it wasn’t long for Davies to pick up 384 Goldy (280C Est) and 592 Mark Marchant latching onto the Condom and they all went in. Goldy and Marchant both nailed Shane to end his race early. 383 Paul Adams hooked out 198 Marcus Goldsmith (Volvo 240 Est) before Goldy nailed Shane again and Waterman nailed the Team Black man. 508 Steve Ashby (Mk1 Coupe) followed in 66 Spoons while 998 Cotty took out 46 Maverick. 614 Chris Hide (XJ) nailed Marchant before then picking up 58 Martin Dalton (Mk3) and putting him in the fence. 508 Ashby put away 305 Mark Penfold and to wrap up the action Baby Bunny fired 262 Buddy James (Volvo 240 Est) into the fence while 617 Jack Overy took a very comfortable win ahead of team mate Cotty Jnr and 456 Nathan Roberts. 1st: 617-Jack Overy, 2nd-998, 3rd-456, 4th-409, 5th-341, 6th-379, 7th-46, 8th-336, 9th-336, 10th-239, 11th-190 A big grid of 35 cars for the Allcomers 341 Andrew Jones latching onto 118 Aaron Brown with the latter doing the same to 222 Ricky Waters and Waters was followed in full chat. 733 Sam Warr (Volvo 240 Est) was span out and 382 Tom Hutchings connected with a head on while Son of Zoot planted Shane Brown into Penfold. 592 Mark Marchant fired into the back of Rob the Roof while Pikey nailed Disco Stu. Darke blasted 88 Tim Wood (Volvo 240 Est) before Maverick picked up Nemesis and followed him into the side of Nath’s Mk2 big time bringing out the reds. 18 cars were left for the restart and Pikey smashed into 159 Daniel Godley (Volvo 240 Est) while Goldsmith put away Axle. Pikey then hammered the Wacky Racer while 714 No Show stopped 249 Darren Brock and the latter took a head on from Goldsmith. Pikey then gave the slowing Marchant a big roofbender before getting taken out by Deano. Axle also blasted Marchant before Maverick nailed the former. Overy took the flag again ahead of Maverick and Deano as No Show and Brocky were battling it out in a DD on the centre which carried on after the reds and No Show rightfully got a ban for it. 1st: 617-Jack Overy, 2nd-46, 3rd-271, 4th-741, 5th-262, 6th-190, nof Just into double figures for the DD and 24 Stinky made a beeline for 908 David Brown and Pikey took a shot at the Son of Zoot. 341 Andrew Jones nailed 279 Rob Brokenshire (Volvo 240 Est) and Alex Waterman t-boned Jones before he took a package from Warr. 278 Rob Brokenshire (who was on 3 wheels at the start of the event) nailed Jones and 557 John Small (Volvo 740 Est) blasted the former. Son of Zoot tried to pile in but to no avail with no steering and left him a sitting duck for Pikey to annihilate and Stinky blasted Small before the reds came out to attend to Son of Zoot. After a short delay there were 5 cars for the restart and Goldy went for Pikey before Waterman went through the back of 278 Brokenshire on the centre. Pikey hit Stinky before the latter avenged the attack and t-boned him. They then shared a head on before Goldy nailed Pikey and then Waterman after he backed off. Pikey and Goldy shared a head on to see Goldy expire and Pikey took a lap run up at Waterman to take the win.
