| Wednesday 14th June - Arlington - Unlimited Bangers World Q/R Report by BangerBash Exactly 45 cars gathered in the pits for Arlington’s first Wednesday night session of the year. Among all the Mk2’s and Jags there was a smattering of tin. We’ll start with the used tin and 522 Weevil had a Triumph 2000 Mk2 from the Pre 70 at Wimbledon, Maverick had the biggest car there with his AMC Ambassador Estate from the same meeting while James Bulley had an XJS and 869 Dave Peskett had a Toyota Crown. Onto the fresh tin and 831 Haribo had a Cortina Mk5, 223 Terry Hyson had a Rover P4 while 159 Rubble had the top motor with a Datsun 180B SSS Coupe. All cars are Mk2’s unless stated. 23 cars out for Heat 1 and it started in style with 439 Danny Sutton putting away 831 Haribo (Cortina Mk5) into the armco. 133 Jamie Wyatt picked up 478 Mark Logan and 26 Buzz Kelsey and the latter car went flat out into the side of the Cortina finishing it off instantly. 322 James Newland then finished off Buzz’s car with a huge hit. 202 Mike Kilford picked up 592 Mark Marchant (XJ6) and they piled into the back of the Cortina as 460 Lewis Barber put 27 Dale Hughes (XJ6) into the wreckage. 363 Bulley (XJS) and 245 Jack France piled in as well just before the reds came out to attend to Buzz Kelsey. On the restart Barber had another shot on Hughes and Marchant helped his teammate out with another hit on the latter. Hughes got some revenge by doing Barber over the back wheel. 409 Joey Collins found the track a bit greasy and went into Kelsey’s dead car. 133 Werzal (Volvo 240 Est) had a pop at Hughes and the latter stayed on the brakes allowing Collins to continue the war with a length of the straight shot to Werzal. The action ended with 25 Tommo putting in 433 ??? (Bluebird) as 730 Deane Mayes (Cav Mk3) took the win ahead of 206 Kingy and 99 The Cheat. 20 out for the second heat and about half of the field went in on the bend (too many to say who!) but most recovered soon after. 242 Korps had a good shot on 614 Chris Hide and 46 Maverick had a good hit on the former. The huge Yank then backed off and span out an oncoming 820 Martin Perkins. Jethro had a shot on 179 Jamie Phillips just before Maverick span out Anglian 741 Capt D. 271 Dean Goodearl and 355 Mark Simmonds were having a close battle up front and Deano eventually came through for the win ahead on the Team Mental pilot. A bigger field of 35 cars for the Final and 869 Dave Peskett (Crown) took out 439 Sutton and Capt D span out 159 Rubble (Datsun 180B SSS Coupe). 528 Jethro picked up 179 Jamie Phillips’ Volvo 240 Estate and put him away big time as all 4 of Leg-ends wheels came off the deck and the car ended in the posts. Rubble picked up a huge amount of speed and put in a big hit on 387 Jimmy Loveridge unfortunately finishing his own car in the process. 869 Peskett got his Crown going again and came on the track on oppo and gave the oncoming Kingy a head on. 244 Bunny (Volvo 240 Estate) then piled into Kingy who was exiting but took it in good spirit and Korps then gave Bunny a big one. 772 Bernie joined the train by hammering Korps which rounded off the action. Fellow Anglians 247 Lee Clarke and Parfitt came through for first and second respectively and 670 Tricky followed that. 19 cars returned for the allcomers and after 1 false start we were under way. Jack France was under attack from Baby Bunny from the off while Bernie took out 614 Chris Hide (Cav Mk3). 514 Marty Eighteen then gave the luckless Hide a head on. 433 Ben Smith (Bluebird) managed to spin himself out and Jethro gave him a head on for his troubles and Bunny also hit the former. The rest of the race was quiet with Parfitt getting one better than in the final and Lee Clarke got second with Wally behind that A good meeting overall with Heat 1 really sticking in peoples minds. Hopefully the big entry might be bettered at the Southern Open for the feuds of certain drivers to carry Car List 7-Colin Farley-Granada Mk2* 25-Mark Thomas-Granada Mk2 26-Buzz Kelsey-Granada Mk2 Estate* 27-Dale Hughes-Jag XJ6* 46-Keith Painter-Rambler Estate* 99-Richie Ahern-Granada Mk2* 112-Ian Greatrex-Granada Mk2 133-Jamie Wyatt-Volvo 240 Estate 159-Mitchell Mills-Datsun 180B SSS Coupe 172-Ben Forbes-Bluebird 179-Jamie Phillips-Volvo 240 Estate 194-Steve Anscombe-Jag XJ6* 202-Mike Kilford-Granada Mk2* 206-Dave King-Granada Mk2* 223-Terry Hyson-Rover P4 239-Andy Swift-Volvo 240 Estate 242-Ricky Korpiella-Granada Mk2* 244-Mike Bunyan-Volvo 240 Estate 245-Jack France-Granada Mk2* 247-Lee Clarke-Cavalier Mk3* 271-Dean Goodearl-Granada Mk2* 322-James Newland-Bluebird* 340-Colin Jones-Bluebird Estate 355-Mark Simmonds-Granada Mk2 Estate 363-James Bulley-Jag XJS* 387-Jimmy Loveridge-Granada Mk2 Estate* 409-Joey Collins-Granada Mk2 Estate 433-Ben Smith-Bluebird 439-Danny Sutton-Volvo 240 Estate* 460-Lewis Barber-Granada Mk2 Estate 474-Anthony Oak-Bluebird* 478-Mark Logan-Granada Mk2* 514-Marty Eighteen-Granada Mk2* 522-Tim James-Triumph 2000 Mk2* 528-Alan Hunt-Volvo 240 554-Roger Wilson-Cavalier Mk3 592-Mark Marchant-Jag XJ6* 614-Chris Hide-Cavalier Mk3 670-Ryan Flockton-Granada Mk2 730-Deane Mayes-Cavalier Mk3* 741-Luke Parfitt-Granada Mk4* 772-Simon Byrne-Granada Mk2 820-Martin Perkins-Granada Mk2 831-?-Cortina Mk5 869-Dave Peskett-Toyota Crown* |
