| 18/09/2005 - Arena Essex - ORC World Final The 35th ORC World Final again attracted a bumper field of around 90 cars to Arena Essex. As you expect the entry was Granada dominated with 321 Andy Newton and 549 Phil Smith providing Mk 1s. Volvo's numbered 3 with 174 Whipper and 818 Ben Edwards providing 240 Estates whilst 110 Mad Dog had a 740 Saloon. As expected a few braved it in FWD cars, with 292 Keith Saunders and 741 Luke Parfitt providing Bluebirds whilst braver still was 326 Mark Woolner had a Mk 3 Cavalier. Also worth a mention was 550 Rob Farrington's Mk 3 Granada Est, whilst 396 Scott Mowlam topped the bill with a cool Laurel. There were far too many smart cars on show to mention specific drivers, so check out the photos to view probably the highest standard of prep that has been seen so far this year on so many cars. After the parade lap for world finalists to draw their grid positions it was on with the racing and 24 cars duly lined up for the 1st Last Chance Qualifier. From the off 731 Shaun Dyer spun out 51 Wusty's coupe whilst the Runners/Creams war kicked off as 193 Frankie spun 203 Gnasher leaving the latter prone to a t-bone from 160 John Harding. 203 Gnasher spun it round to come on oppo and stick to Harding as 207 Rocket Randall had 193 Frankie out as 330 Roy Laybourn (in Cream Team colours) jacked up the luckless 203 Gnasher. 207 Randall then came against the flow to blow up 330 Old Roy before the latter met 203 Gnasher on the nose. 207 Randall ignored the black flag and silenced 330 Laybourn with a shot over the back wheel as 12 Dale Hughes spun 323 Sam Rigby on the top bend allowing 90 Bartlett in for one of the nose. 356 Luke Radley wiped an unseen victim all around the pit bend armco as 193 Frankie and 207 Randall met in a series of head ons. 356 Radley continued his full contact display with a head on to the spun 16 Bob Dunn. By this point 99 Richie Ahern had moved into the lead and flicked out 731 Dyabolical Dyer infront of the rostrum as 16 Dunn saw the race out with a revenge shot on 356 Radley. 1st 99 Richie Ahern, 2nd 58 Martin Dalton, 3rd 555 Roy Rawlins, 4th 395 Steve Hale, 5th 2 Billy Lee, 6th 7th19 Dave Edwards, 8th 90 Mark Bartlett, 9th 51 Jon Worstencroft A slightly higher field for the second Last Chance raced with 208 Jimmy Randall taking out 60 Steve Laybourn from the off which resulted in Laybourn taking a hit over the front wheel from 818 Ben Edwards. 440 walled 174 Whipper as 773 Mad Mouse assisted 24 Lee Hughes into 753 Billy Cunningham on the top bend leaving the latter nicely trashed, as on the pit bend 60 Laybourn fired into 242 Ricky Korpiela head on. 380 Trevor Wright spun 208 The Finger as 818 Edwards again hit 60 Laybourn, whilst in a pile up on the home straight 251 Richard Blake did 190 Shandy Man Dan over the back wheel ending the latters day. Blake didn't have it all his own way as he found the armco on the next turn courtesy of 443 Dave Harvey whilst elsewhere 242 Korps did 60 Laybourn. 471 Terry Freakes clipped Korps on his way past whilst 415 Paul Hawkes blew up the stationary 190 Weller. 208 Randall came powering round the pit bend a duly met 60 Laybourn on the nose silencing the Desert Rat's star as 507 Danny Brown met 600 Mark Johns immaculate motor on the nose. On the top bend 399 Phil Cullen inverted 174 Whipper's Volvo as 507 Brown was once again on oppo, this time stopping 753 Billy Cunningham. 440 Ian Phillips put 399 Cullen in on the bridge bend as 753 Cunningham got a black flag for fart arseing around on the shale. 917 John Millen had 418 John Harris out for the lead, prompting the latter to come down the straight at high speed on oppo, luckily for Millen he went the right side of Harvey's dead motor to take the win, before diving onto the centre on the back straight to avoid the inevitable head on from Harris. 1st 917 John Millen, 2nd 456 Nathan Roberts, 3rd 415 Paul Hawkes, 4th 242 Ricky Korpiela, 5th 26 Buzz Kelsey, 6th 418 John Harris, 7th 440 Ian Phillips, 8th 309 Shane Collins 40 for the main event itself including Ahern after a quick engine swap! 331 Jason Jackson had an unfortunate clash with 295 Graham Heywood at the star whilst 84 Bleach, 364 Winchester and 75 Thacker all got it wrong on the pit bend. 998 Cotty spun 282 Saunders (Nothing like EA's sticking together!) whilst 116 Wanty put himself and 741 Parfitt in hard on the pit bend. 321 Newton found himself spun on the back straight and was collected by the leading 188 Fuller whilst 589 Smiffy Jnr had turned round, although 84 Bleach got to him first dishing out a big shot to the Glad man. 785 James Ellis was spun on the back straight allowing 311 Lee Bradbury to come screeching down the straight and duly straight through the CAMSO man's doors leaving it well caved in. 84 Bleach was on one, this time giving 549 Phil Smith a big one on the nose, stopping both there and then, as 47 Andy Davies flicked out 800 Steve Farrell. 202 Kilf clipped a parked car on the back straigh as 158 Shane Davies and 998 Cotty met in a huge head on on the top bend, ensuring the latter wouldn't retain his title. 190 Steve Bailey took out 348 Mushy whilst 188 Fuller was stretching out a big lead, by now nearly half a lap. 191 Shaun McMillan put 741 Parfitt's Bluey in hard whilst 49 Bill King flicked out 148 Shorty and then 364 Winchester on the next corner, whilst keeping his second position. We were down to the last few with 49 King and 171 Skid both having a cracking race in second, although King slowed towards the end allowing 883 Isherwood and 348 The Mush through. 188 Fuller reeled off the laps to record the win, as 171 Skid coasted to second as his engine blew up! A superb driuve by Fuller winning it flag to flag, the first to do so since Andy Davies back in 2001, and also worth a mention was 396 Scott Mowlam recording a fine 6th in the Laurel, and indeed the only non-Granada in the top 10. 1st - 188 Matt Fuller, 2nd - 171 Lee Madden, 3rd - 883 Lloyd Isherwood, 4th - 348 Sonny Sherwood, 5th - 49 Billy King, 6th - 396 Scott Mowlam, 7th - 364 Sean Winchester, 8th - 331 Jason Jackson, 9th - 67 Gary Greenland, 10th - 539 Michael Outen 18 came back for the Consolation race with 24 Lee Hughes following in 471 Terry Freakes from the off allowing 460 Lethal Weapon in for a rock hard t-bone. 160 Ginger John stuck it to Hughes with 161 Wayne Byrne and 773 Mad Mouse also piling into the lone Runner. 731 Dyer turned 245 Coling Burnham into the armco allowing 16 Bob Dunn in for a shot, before also attacking 414 Busby. 593 Tommy Harrell attacked 323 Sam Rigby inside on the last 2 laps with the latter simply carrying on for third place, and Harrell given the load up. 1st - 12 Dale Hughes, 2nd - 731 Shaun Dyer, 3rd - 323 Sam Rigby, 4th - 169 Len Brinkley, 5th - 460 Lewis Barber, 6th - 380 Trevor Wright, 7th - 245 Colin Burnham Just under 40 returned for the meeting Final with 190 Pikey putting 58 Martin Dalton in from the off, whilst 12 Dale Hughes, 550 Farrington and 731 Dyer amongst others all got caught in a pile up on the home straight. 148 Ian Redden spun 331 Boxer as 242 Korps jacked 380 Shakey as 399 Phil Cullen met 589 Smify Jnr on the nose. 242 Korps have Shakey a shot over the back wheel, as 331 Boxer came in with a mega t-bone whilst 348 Mush dodged Smiffy Jnr, only to throw away the lead to turn round and jack him up on the top bend. 589 Smiffy Jnr carried on however and did the Mush over the front wheel whilst the spun 12 Dale Hughes simply kept the power down to destroy 589 Smiffy. 731 Dyer gave 415 Hawkes a solid shot allowing the on form 348 Mushy in to put the formers roof up to finish a lively race. A good field of 30 came back for the Rawlins/DD including 110 Maddog in his first race of the day. From the off 731 Dyer fired up 12 Hughes, with the latter picking up 174 Whipper to send him rolling for the second time, with the latter exiting safely on the centre. 507 Danny Brown jacked 399 Cullen whilst 169 Lenny Boy t-boned 549 Smith on the top bend allowing, you guessed it, 348 Mushy in for the head on. 24 Lee Hughes came on oppo to fire up the back of 330 Old Roy, whilst 208 Jimmy Randall introduced 110 Maddog to the armco on the pit bend, but not before 161 Wayne Byrne came in for one on the Runner. 24 Hughes was again in the action t-boneing 160 Ginger John, with 242 Korps repeating the move. 773 Mad Mouse gave Korps one over the front wheel, allowing 208 The Finger in for a shot over the back wheel, before meeting Mouse head on twice. Mouse then backed off and gave 208 Randall a solid jack up as 800 Noon gave 110 Maddog a stiff shot over the front wheel before jacking 752 Sam Cunningham a lap later. 24 Hughes then stuck it to 773 Mad Mouse on oppo as 418 John Harris attacked 800 Noon, removing the latters fin plate, although the latter shrugged the attack off to connect with 456 Nathan Roberts on oppo. 24 Hughes again fired up 773 Mouse whilst 600 Mark Johns t-boned 800 Noon. 418 Hitman Harris jacked up 208 Randall on oppo as 456 Roberts gave 600 Johns one on the nose. 785 Ellis appeared from nowhere to give Randall a big t-bone and hit the ejector seat quicker than most RAF recruits could've done so! 552 Black Nuts gave 364 Winchester one over the back wheel leaving himself prone to a t-bone from 418 Harris and 67 Greenland then joined the assault with a shot over Harris' back wheel. 24 Lee Hughes finally managed to break free from the big pile up to arrousing cheers and 67 Greenland immediately fired up the back of the Runner. 67 Greenland went on oppo as 418 Harris came roaring down the straight, choosing to go for the massive head on with Greenland silencing both, leaving 24 Hughes to take a well deserved win. 1st 363 Sean Winchester, 2nd 67 Gary Greenland, 3rd 552 Karl Douglas Last Car Running - 24 Lee Hughes Car List 02 - Mk 2 Granada* 10 - Paul Whiteman - Mk 2 Granada 11 - Waz Barber - Mk 2 Granada* 12 - Dale Hughes - Mk 2 Granada Est* 16 - Bob Dunn - Mk 2 Granada 19 - Dave Edwards - Mk 2 Granada Est 24 - Lee Hughes - Mk 2 Granada Est* 26 - Buzz Kelsey - Mk 2 Granada Est 27 - Andy Reynolds - Mk 2 Granada* 47 - Andy Davies - Mk 2 Granada 49 - Billy King - Mk 2 Granada 53 - Dave Palmer - Mk 2 Granada 58 - Martin Dalton - Mk 2 Granada 60 - Steve Laybourn - Mk 2 Granada 67 - Gary Greenland - Mk 2 Granada 75 - Steve Thacker - Mk 2 Granada* 83 - Andy Bevan - Mk 2 Granada 90 - Mark Bartlett - Mk 2 Granada Est 99 - Richie Ahern - Mk 2 Granada 110 - Michael Howard - Volvo 740 116 - Mark Want - Mk 2 Granada Est 148 - Ian Redden - Mk 2 Granada 158 - Shane Davies - Mk 2 Granada* 160 - John Harding - Mk 2 Granada 161 - Wayne Byrne - Mk 2 Granada 169 - Lenny Brinkley - Mk 2 Granada 171 - Lee Madden - Mk 3 Granada 174 - Dave Osbourne - Volvo 240 Est 183 - Paul Hunter - Mk 3 Granada 188 - Matt Fuller - Mk 2 Granada 190 - Dan Weller - Mk 2 Granada 190 - Steve Bailey - Mk 2 Granada 191 - Shaun McMillan - Mk 2 Granada Est 193 - Frank Skinner - Mk 2 Granada 202 - Mike Kilford - Mk 2 Granada 203 - Darren Nash - Mk 2 Granada 208 - Jimmy Randall - Mk 2 Granada 242 - Ricky Korpiela - Mk 2 Granada 245 - Colin Burnham - Mk 2 Granada 251 - Richard Blake - Mk 2 Granada 292 - Keith Saunders - Bluebird 295 - Graham Heywood - Mk 2 Granada* 309 - Shane Collins - Mk 2 Granada* 311 - Lee Bradbury - Mk 2 Granada 321 - Andy Newton - Mk 1 Granada 323 - Sam Rigby - Mk 2 Granada Est 326 - Mark Woolner - Mk 3 Cavalier 330 - Roy Laybourn - Mk 2 Granada Est 331 - Jason Jackson - Mk 2 Granada 348 - Sonny Sherwood - Mk 2 Granada 356 - Luke Radley - Mk 2 Granada Est* 364 - Sean Winchester - Mk 2 Granada Est 380 - Trevor Wright - Mk 2 Granada 395 - Steven Hale - Mk 2 Granada 396 - Scott Mowlam - Laurel 399 - Phil Cullen - Mk 2 Granada 404 - Rob Mills - Mk 2 Granada* 414 - Lee Busby - Mk 2 Granada 415 - Paul Hawkes - Mk 2 Granada 418 - John Harris - Mk 2 Granada 440 - Ian Phillips - Mk 4 Granada 443 - Dave Harvery - Mk 2 Granada Est* 456 - Nathan Roberts - Mk 5 Cortina Est* 460 - Lewis Barber - Mk 2 Granada 471 - Terry Freakes - Mk 2 Granada 507 - Danny Brown - Mk 2 Granada 539 - Michael Outen - Mk 2 Granada 549 - Phil Smith - Mk 1 Granada 550 - Rob Farrington - Mk 3 Granada Est 552 - Karl Douglas - Mk 2 Granada* 555 - Roy Rawlins - Mk 3 Granada 592 - Mark Marchant - Mk 2 Granada 593 - Tommy Harrell - Mk 2 Granada Est* 600 - Mark Johns - Mk 2 Granada 650 - Craig Farrow - Mk 1 Granada* 731 - Shaun Dyer - Mk 2 Granada 741 - Luke Parfitt - Bluebird 751 - Mickey Carroll - Mk 2 Granada 752 - Sam Cunningham - Mk 2 Granada Est 753 - Billy Cunningham - Mk 2 Granada 773 - Kevin McClagish - Mk 2 Granada 785 - James Ellis - Mk 2 Granada 800 - Steve Farrell - Mk 2 Granada 818 - Ben Edwards - Volvo 240 Est 883 - Lloyd Isherwood - Mk 2 Granada 917 - John Millen - Mk 2 Granada 998 - Wayne Cottrill Jnr - Mk 2 Granada |
