11/09/2005 - Arena Essex - Rising Stars
Apologies for the large number of missing names.

PRI's decision to reinstate the Rising Stars series this season was again backed up with a turnout of 45 white
tops to do battle amongst drivers of a similar ability.  Surprisingly quite a few opted for RWD cars with 453 Ivan
Clarke, 383 Jeff Smith, 130 and 218 all turning out Mk 5 Cortinas, the later 2 Estates, whilst 212 had a Mk 4
version, and 288 had an increasingly rare Stellar.

With the field split into 2 for the heats, 22 came out for heat one, with 161 Wayne Byrne taking out 288 from the
off, allowing 509 Paul Brown in for the t-bone.  288 taking further punishment from 249 Jimmy Harding and 165
Darren Wilson.  Incarace visitor 170 Darren Teal attacked 26 Buzz Kelsey on the top bend whilst 249 Jimmy
Harding finished 288 with a length of the straight shot leaving the Stellar well jacked, much to Boxer Jack's
amusement!  162 Charlie Shanahan spun 187 and continued to spin 266 George Rowbotham.  39 Jack King
turned 26 Buzz aside as 165 Herb collected the latter, and 161 Byrne took the flag.

1st 161 Wayne Byrne, 2nd 238, 3rd Charlie Shanahan, 4th 71 Richard Davies, 5th 165 Darren Wilson, 6th , 7th
498, 8th 187

Heat 2 had 20 cars out, and was quieter by comparison with little action in the first few laps other than 4 Mutley
being turned around by 306.  306 was in the action later one attacking 320, with the latter lucky not to roll, whilst
319 Darren Fuller spun 466 Lee Hackett on the last corner, with the latter taking one from 320, costing him the
win, allowing 262 Kev Lee through for the win.

1st 262 Kevin Lee, 2nd 466 Lee Hackett, 3rd 264 Steve Wilson, 4th 306, 5th 4 Mark Burroughs, 6th 307, 7th 319
Darren Fuller, 8th 344 Lee Callis, 9th 320, 10th 329 Dean Theisinger

After a bit of confusion, all 45 cars present returned for the final, with 187, 70 Liam Woodcock and 249 Jimmy
Harding all hitting the wall hard on the top bend.  295 Beer Glarss jacked 249 Harding whilst 509 Paul Brown
did 70 Woodcock over the front wheel hard infront of the Tavern.  4 Mutley wiped 543 Mungo round the pit bend
armco before giving Beer Glarss a shot.  170 Darren Teal gave 4 The Mut a solid one up the rear to end a cool
train, whilst on the top bend 262 Kev Lee dished out a shot over the back wheel to one of Bursta Blood Vessel
(with heavy rain and mist it was hard to see who!).  504 met 39 Jack King on the nose whilst on the top bend
165 Herb dealt out a big follow in to 528 Stu McLaren's Sierra Estate.  201 Ronnie Boy was succesfully
introduced to the armco by 39 Jack King, with the pair then meeting on the nose.  205 Koonta met 187 in a
massive head on on the pit bend, with 249 Jimmy harding silencing the luckless Midnight Joey, with a shot up
the rear and another over the front wheel.  It didn't all go Harding's way as 266 George Rowbotham came on
oppo and gave him a good shot, before Harding fired back with one of the nose.  We were down to the last few
runners by now, as 26 Kelsey jacked 320 in the top bend pile up finishing the pair, leaving 319 Fuller and 344
Callis to run down the laps.  Both used the shale on the top bend, before Fuller put Callis into a dead car on the
pit bend, and survived a last corner attack to take the win, although he was docked places for using the shale
more than Callis, with just 2 going the distance.

1st 344 Lee Callis, 2nd 319 Darren Fuller

A good 15 came back for the Rawlins, with 528 McLaren following in the similar maching of 320 on the top
bend, as 264 Boonie passed 306 with 2 laps to go and took the win in the race.  As the DD kicked off 306
attempted to follow in 250, walling himself hard, as 264 Boonie met 161 Wayne Byrne in a big head on, with the
former continuing to t-bone 199 Dave Gardiner on oppo.  Gardiner took a run up down the straight on oppo and
duly missed his target as 161 Byrne met 255 Marsden on the nose on the bridge bend.  212 jacked 249
Harding, as 161 Byrne was putting on a show, meeting 250 on the nose on again on the top bend before
jacking his assailant.  161 Byrne once again met 250 on the nose, allowing 249 Harding in for once on the
nose, with only Harding backing off to end a good DD.
