02/10/2005 - Arena Essex - Non Ford Terry Skeef Memorial

I made it 64 cars for the annual Terry Skeef memorial, a special day to remember one of the most popular faces
in racing, with all (well most!) drivers turning out in Terry's original Clockwork Orange colours.  Nothing to not car
wise, with the best being 612 Brieboy who returned Boonie's Sceptre from Arlington back in August.

25 arrived on track for Heat 1, with 183 Paul Hunter and 552 Blacknuts forced to start at the back for not being
orange.  The start was a little quiet, but on the top bend 105 Billy Standing wound out 27 Andy Reynolds whilst
264 Boonie put 685's Cherry into the fence, with 612 Brieboy piling the Sceptre up the back of the luckless 685.
A lap later and Boonie repeated the move again, on the same car, allowing 221 Tony Cosans in for one on the
nose.183 Paul Hunter spun 504 as Boonie completed a full contact win for the flag.

1st 264 Steve Wilson, 2nd 552 Karl Douglas, 3rd 188 Matt Fuller, 4th 567 Gary Brown, 5th 323 Sam Rigby, 6th
112 Ian Greatrex, 7th 51, 8th 183 Paul Hunter

A similar field of 26 for Heat 2, with 120 Alistair Cherington finding himself facing the wrong way from the off.  A
pile up was forming on the back straight, but with every car being orange it was to see who was hitting who,
however 345 Chewy pulled off a solid jack on visitor 213 Tony Roe.  346 Kirk Bodnar spun out 242 Ricky
Korpiela, the latter then recovered, only to get spun again almost immediately, along with 814 and 636.  330 Roy
Laybourn bounced off the inner kerb and was lucky not to roll as 10 Whiteman jacked the luckless 120
Cherington.  331 Boxer Jack almost spun 330 Laybourn whilst on the top bend 348 Mush flicked out Gladiator
rival 267 Steve Carter.  415 Paul Hawkes caught a dead motor heavily as 549 Phil Smith completed the win, to
guarentee his 2nd place in this years Plastengrave Non-Ford Series.

1st 549 Phil Smith, 2nd 67 Gary Greenland, 3rd 348 Sonny Sherwood, 4th 10 Paul Whiteman, 5th 331 Jason
Jackson, 6th 200 Wayne Holton, 7th 267 Steve Carter

The usual formalities of the annual staff race preceded the 23 car final, and 330 Roy Laybourn's intentions were
clear from the off, spinning it round immediately, although cutting out and not moving any further.  348 The Mush
turned round to meet 549 Phil Smith on the nose on the top bend, as 01 walled 106 Phil Pratchett.  348 Mushy
spun 267 Carter very hard on the home straight, before meeting 106 Pratchett on the nose.  01 made a dive for
Mushy, and missed meeting the armco in a simply huge head on, the armco coming off better!  348 Mushy met
549 Phil Smith on the nose, and 267 Carter then came in for one over the front wheel.  331 Boxer jack walled the
303 Escort hard, as 323 Sam Rigby did Mushy length of the straight on oppo, fair play to the Spedeworth man for
sitting tight and waiving them in.  552 Karl Douglas gave 27 Andy Reynolds a rock hard follow in as 67
Greenland clonked out a lap from home, leaving 567 Brown to take the win.

1st 567 Gary Brown, 2nd 10 Paul Whiteman, 3rd 188 Matt Fuller, 4th 264 Steve Wilson, 5th 208 Jimmy Randall,
6th 183 Paul Hunter, 7th 200 Wayne Holton, 8th 112 Ian Greatrex, 9th 345 Craig Hewitt, 10th 221 Tony Cosans

A fair field of 21 returned for the Rawlins/DD with 647 taking out 264 Boonie from the off, with the latter
recovering to t-bone 627 hard.  A pile up formed infront of the rostrum involving 627 and 504 amongst others.
625 spun 282 Danny Armani hard on the pit bend as 345 Chewy followed 681 Lee Parry into the parked 282 car,
trashing Parry impressively.  527 Danny Gardiner spun 200 Skippy onto the shale, as 213 Tony Row spun 685
on the bridge bend.  200 Skippy gained revenge on 527 Gardiner spinning him on the pit bend, with the pair
lucky not to catch parked cars.  625 turned round and 213 Tinman duly gave hime on on the nose, alloting 547
Tony McNeil in for a shot over the back wheel, whilst 200 Skippy continued his mission against Gardiner with a
massive shot on the back straight.  The latter unfortunately needed help from his car, but was only shaken up,
with the result being declared in favour of 39 Jack King.
