| STOLEN CAR UPDATE (09-12) Another little note to say that the Stolen car that appeared on here last Monday has been found, and still in one piece. All of the spares, the dizzy cap and rotor arm were stolen, as were the ramps and wheel off of the trailer. The only damage to the car was light front and rear end damage, and with a little work it will be back on the track soon. |

| ARENA ESSEX SEASON OPENER (09-12) Just a little note to say the season will begin on March 12th 2006, and will be for the Unlimited Bangers 'Shakedown' and most probably Lightning Rods in support. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| END OF SEASON (08-12) It's that time of the year again, the nights are cold and dark, you're digging out all the old DVD's pulling up a chair for a night of heavy action, waiting for the new season to begin. It's been a turbulent year for bangers, which will forever be sadly marred by the tragic loss of 91 Beech, but as harsh as it sounds, life, and indeed the sport must move on, just as Beech would've wanted. Drivers and spectators alike will be given their chance to honour Dave on 3rd September 2006 at Bovingdon (2 Litre Bangers) and 26th September at Standlake (Under and Over 1800cc), lets hope that these meetings are a fitting tribute to a true star of our sport. The season has had it's up and downs, beginning with a superb Civil War, in which we were once again beaten (next time lads, next time!) and ended with a superb line of Gala Nights, both Arlington and Ipswich, a pukka Firecracker, superb Wimbledon World Final and a brilliant Ringwood Open to finish. Many drivers have had a hugely successful season, and we must congratulate them all, 188 Matt Fuller (PRI & 2 Litre World), 158 Shane Davies (Spedeworth World) and all his Condom Team mates for all of their team victories again this season, culminating in victory at the Old Skool bash last weekend. They aren't the only 2 successes this season, 348 Mushy again has won too many titles to list, and whilst they have all been winning, others have been wrecking. 400 Shinny has been on fine form all year (like him or not!), 10 Paul Whiteman has been crashing his way through the season, whilst still qualifying for the PRI World Final, and ended his fine season with an epic hit on 265 Ken Angell at Wimbo WF. The Bears once again have had a good season, with 422 Nicko (get well soon) now retired, and 321 Wingnut having a quieter year next year they have some fine young drivers coming through the ranks, including 28 Ozzie, who is another world champion this season, winning his gold on the dirt at Smallfield. And 2 drivers we cannot fail to mention, 133 Werzal and 199 Bona, the latter who won his first major title at Bristol West of England, and both of which have been wrecking to their heart's content all season, and long may it continue! Some of the biggest news this season has been Ringwood being taken over by Spedeworth, which has only meant improvements for the Hampshire venue, and also later in the season Startrax pending take over of Brampton, which has been rejected by many locals at the track. It would be hard to pick a track of the year, RDC have had an outstanding year, as has Spedeworth South. Once again PRI have had a steady well supported domestic scene, as have Autospeed since the Eddie James revival. As usual I would've been unable to keep the site up to date without the help of many people. Rob Daines, Nico, Deane Wood, Michael Coventry, Tony Woodruffe for the constant flow of booking lists and news. Jon Carr, Bangerbash, Steve and Daniel Stacey for supplying photos at some time throughout the season, as well as reports in Steve and Daniel's case. Also a massive thanks to everybody who has given me a lift to meetings during the year, both my parents, Rog, Hog (hmm sounds like an advert), Steve Avis, Chingy, Twigzy, Alex Cately, and probably others as well, I cannot thank you all enough. All that is left for me now is to wish you all a smashing Christmas and a cracking New Year, and don't forget to 'post' all your cards early and make sure you don't get you too drunk, have a good'un, Marc |

| DOUBLE TROUBLE AT WIMBLEDON STADIUM Spedeworth South (www.spedeworth.net ) brings what has to be the wildest form of motorsport to Wimbledon at 5pm on Sunday December 11t h when the Siamese Racers take to the track. The Siamese cars consist of a Metro perched on top of a Ford Sierra with a brave pilot steering from the top car while and equally brave (or completely mad) driver operates the accelerator and brakes from the bottom car. Needless to say handling is shall we say somewhat compromised, so plenty of interesting racing action is on the cards as these bizarre machines navigate their way around Plough Lane. More metal bashing mayhem is on the cards when the Metro Bangers tear each other apart in their annual Metro Madness meeting. The little cars provide plenty of huge thrills as they are put to a use far removed from their days of fetching the shopping from Sainsburys on Sunday afternoon. The V8 Stock Cars will also be in action as the drivers compete in the Les Gamblin and Terry O’ Connor Memorial. These powerful machines are always crowd pleasers at Plough Lane as the drivers power around the circuit and remove the opposition with their very purposeful front bumpers. The action will be extra intense on the night as the drivers put on a special show in memory of two of the formula’s great and much missed drivers. With two all-action formulas in action, plus the chance to see the amazing Siamese Racers Sunday December 11th will deliver another great night’s racing at Wimbledon Stadium, Britain’s finest stock car racing venue. | Crash Burn Love (23-11) Thanks to Rob Daines Crash Burn Love, a series of photographs and essays on the all-American sport of Demolition Derbies, by Bill Lowenburg is now available in the UK. The 108 page book features 80 black and white photographs that capture the gritty and gasoline soaked atmosphere of the full-contact motorsport. “I’d seen demo derbies on TV, as a kid, but never witnessed one live,” the photographer recalls, “I thought there might be interesting action in the pit area and made arrangements to photograph there. Within five minutes of arriving, I knew this would be next project, and that I wanted to produce a book.” In the event that book would take almost a decade of work during which Bill has managed to grab some really candid and atmospheric shots of the frantic work in the pits and the frantic action on the circuit. The photographer clearly did not come to shoot the sport as some kind of a freak show and his respect for the subject matter and the people involved shows in the finished work. “I’ve seen guys perform incredible feats of mechanical improvisation that someone with a PHD in engineering would be proud of,” he says, “plus the whole scene is just a hell of a lot of fun.” Further information on ‘Crash Burn Love’ is priced at $29.95 in softback and $49.95 for the hardback version. Please check with the publisher for shipping to the UK orders@backstreetbooks.com website www.backstreetbooks.com Mail PO Box 721 Stroudsburg, PA 18630 USA. | SURREAL SCRAP YARD ART (16-11) Anthony Wilson (www.sculpturemad.com) has transformed several scrap cars at Shaftesbury, Dorset based Langford’s vehicle dismantling yard into surreal creatures that look as if they have just landed from another planet. “Although the creatures do look as if they have come from outer space,” the sculptor states, “they are based upon the gargoyles that once adorned Shaftesbury Abbey.” The Abbey is now lost to history, but Anthony was inspired by seeing the original stone carvings at the Shaftesbury Abbey museum. To recreate those medieval monsters using a modern medium, Anthony worked with scrap cars as diverse as a modern day Fiat Saxo through to a classic Mini Clubman and Citroen 2CV. “The cars were destined to live again as recycled metal, “ Anthony states, “but with a little imagination they have been reborn as a piece of art, rather than being crushed and turned into baked bean cans.” Each of the monsters has two faces, one staring over the fence of the yard, the other facing customers, picking some spares for their vehicles. “The finished sculptures are quite spooky,” jokes Anthony, “and they should be more effective at deterring thieves than the traditional grizzled Alsatian on the end of large chain!” Paul Langford, who owns the four-acre vehicle dismantling yard and has created some of his own art from spare parts of cars, said of the distinctive creations, “People do not usually associate art with car dismantlers, but I think it is a great way to get people to see some interesting works of art that they might otherwise never have chanced across.” If anyone is planning to recycle their old car, or indeed any other ‘scrap’ materials, in a highly original way, Anthony is be pleased to discuss individual commissions. | WIMBLEDON WORLD FINAL (16-11) The World Championship full contact crown for the National Bangers was taken in fine style by Shane Davies, 158, at Wimbledon Stadium on November 13th in front of a sell-out crowd. Ahead of the final the audience was treated to two last chance qualifiers with 80 drivers vying for a spot on the final grid with only two places available. Needless to say the action was intense as car after car was reduced to scrap metal as the bumpers went in around the famous Plough Lane circuit. As the smoke cleared from the two heats and the last wreck was towed off the track the two drivers who had fought their way through to the World Final were Anthony Crowshaw, 145 and Jason Jackson, 331. Robert Moffat, 430, drew pole position in the public draw for the grid ahead of the big race, while defending champion Keith ‘Maverick’ Painter, 46, drew 8th spot. The rest of the field was assigned their places and the immaculately prepared Bangers began two rolling laps behind the pace cars. The second the green flag fell automotive anarchy reigned as the drivers ploughed their cars into the opposition and attempted to batter their way to the front. Early leader Dean Mayes, 730 set a storming pace as the rest of the field snapped at his rear bumper. The second place spot changed several times with Frankie Whitelock, 69 then Mark Welland, 264 piling on the pressure. As the race wore on and the track began to resemble a scrap yard, Shane Davies, who had worked his way up from third to second, made his move and took out Mayes with a well-timed attack on the back straight. As Hayes spun out of contention Davies took up the running and never looked in any real danger of losing the top spot. As the chequered flag fell the 2005 World Championship title went to Shane Davies, who was followed home by Billy King, 49 and Mike Kilford, 202. The winners were presented with their impressive trophies, laurels, and champagne in front of a wildly appreciative crowd. The new champion stated, “I’ve never really had that much luck with the big races,” before breaking into a huge grin and finishing, “but that’s all changed with this one.” The gold roof holder for 2005 also pledged to travel to as many tracks as possible to defend the title in the coming season. There will be more action at Wimbledon Stadium on November 27 with the Best in Britain championships for the Stock Cars, 2.0 Hot Rods, and Superstox. | RINGWOOD UK OPEN (19-11) The list has been updated again, with many more top names on the list, the Bears are coming for a play, Harry Rawlins is also booked, although it remains to see if any of his team mates will book in for the meeting. Certainly looking like being a cracker. |

| Beech Memorials (25-11) Spedeworth will be holding a Memorial meeting for Beech on Sunday 3rd September, at Bovingdon Raceway, start time 1:30. This means the date of Dave's tragic death can be set aside for a private family bereavement. It will be open to any drivers, ORC or not, and is 2 weeks before the Standlake meeting, to allow time for drivers to do both. Now a message from Keith Hook about the Standlake Meeting; Back to the Beech Memorial at Standlake on 24th September 2006. 2 Banger classes, Under & Over 1800cc. Everyone is telling me the meeting will be massive, so: I will probably make the meeting for booked in racers only. I can't see that anyone who's booked in would not turn up. That would be lower than low. The meeting will be limited to 250 bookings. If the number of booked in racers gets over 200, the meeting will be Bangers only with no rod classes. ---- Keith ---- Promoter - Standlake Arena |

| SPEDEWORTH WORLD QUALIFYING (17-12) The World Qualifiers are back for 2006, starting around May time. There will be 1 each at Wimbledon, Ringwood, Arlington, Bovingdon, Swaffham and Yarmouth and 2 at Ipswich, that way there are 4 each south and east anglia, all Unlimited cc meetings. The top 17 drivers go through, (the existing 15 plus the 2 Ringwood places), but there will be at least 2 East Anglians in the World Final even if none of them make the top 17. The attendance points are still available for domestic meetings but they are halved to 5 points per meeting instead of 10 in 2005, and they will not be awarded for big meetings like London Open etc. |

| LONDON OPEN (07-02) Spedeworth South (www.spedeworth.net ) will deliver a night of automotive anarchy at Wimbledon’s Plough Lane stadium at 5PM on Sunday, February 12th when 190 all-action National Bangers take to the track to fight it out for the 2006 London Open To keep the racing as level and exciting as possible all the Bangers at this event will be limited to under 1600cc, leaving the cars evenly matched and the result down to driving skill (coupled with extremely violent use of the front bumper and the ability to dodge multi-car pile ups) rather than sheer engine power. The London Open draws the best Banger racers from around the country leading to a massive grid full of star drivers, all determined to add the prestigious London Open title to their CV. The action is guaranteed to produce spectacular pile ups and all-out automotive destruction that will reduce the immaculately prepared cars to twisted heaps of scrap metal by the end of the night’s racing. With a massive grid of almost 200 cars set to tear each other apart in pursuit of the silverware and £2,000 worth of prize money, the racing, wrecking, rollovers and crashing will be non stop from the second the first green flag drops to the last metal bending moment of the demolition derby at Wimbledon Stadium, Britain’s finest oval racing circuit. Full details from Spedeworth South on 01252 322 920 or www.spedeworth.net Further press information: Robert Daines email: robertcdaines@aol.com Mobile 07952 270378 Website www.autopr.co.uk |
